Young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) got a chance to hit the links thanks to a GL Homes-organized golf lesson at First Tee – Gold Coast at Dyer Park in Riviera Beach.
These young adults are clients of Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, which serves as their legal guardian. Along with Legal Aid Society, Palm Beach County Mayor Maria Marino, who is a First Tee board member, and GL Homes volunteers, Don Nevitt and Larry Portnoy, these budding golfers were able to learn golf basics, enjoy the outdoors, and build confidence.
Since 2017, GL Homes has hosted the Legal Aid Society IDD clients at many interactive activities including bowling, art classes, swimming lessons, cooking classes and equine therapy.
Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County is committed to providing high quality civil legal advice, representation and education to the disadvantaged of Palm Beach County in order to protect their personal safety, enhance their opportunities and living conditions and promote self-sufficiency.
First Tee – Florida Gold Coast enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with life skills curriculum, we create learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do.
