Thanks to several large buckets of paint and elbow grease from 14 GL Homes volunteers, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County client Hattie Whitfield’s home is ready to roll out the welcome mat!

Through Habitat’s Neighborhood Engagement program, A Brush with Kindness, GL Homes volunteers painted the exterior of Mrs. Whitfield’s home. The Neighborhood Engagement program includes yard clean-up, mailbox replacement and other minor repairs.

Georgia native Hattie Whitfield moved to West Palm Beach in 1955. For 30 years, Mrs. Whitfield owned and operated Anderson Cooking Services, a successful deli and bakery. She also worked as a housekeeper and chauffer in Palm Beach. She has two adult children and is active in her church.

At 91, Mrs. Whitfield is a proud homeowner who takes great pride in her independence. She looks forward to planting a garden full of greens and potatoes to share with her neighbors.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County is an affiliate of the global nonprofit, Habitat for Humanity, which brings people together to build homes, hope and community.
