GL Homes hosted Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County’s intellectually disabled adults for a healthy cooking class in downtown West Palm Beach. Chef Andre Timor of Sur La Table taught six special needs clients how to make a hot and tasty lunch with fresh ingredients.

Sarah Alsofrom, Pilar DeLaRosa and Arya Shakibi from GL Homes along with Bob Bertisch and Jessica Kelson from Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County worked alongside the clients to create a delicious lunch of baked chicken parm casserole, spaghetti squash olivo and macerated berries with whipped cream.

After the cooking class and lunch, each client selected one gift from the Sur La Table store – thanks to GL Homes.

The clients who are part of the Guardian Advocacy Project (GAP) range in age from 26 to 32 years old.  Many of them aged out of the foster care system and but for the Legal Aid Society, they would be homeless. Legal Aid Society, a nonprofit organization, serves as the health surrogate and legal guardian for these adults.

Since 2017, GL Homes has hosted this same group of Legal Aid Society clients at many interactive activities including golf lessons, bowling, swimming lessons and equine therapy.
